Mānoa Heritage Center

E lauhoe mai na waʻa; i ke kā, i ka hoe; i ka hoe, i ke kā; pae aku i ka ‘āina.

Everybody paddle the canoes together; bail and paddle, paddle and bail, and the shore is reached.

Pitch in with a will, everybody, and the work is quickly done.

ʻŌlelo Noeʻau #327

The last few months have been unlike any we have experienced before.

At Mānoa Heritage Center, we are approaching this time as an opportunity to reflect, reshape, and rebuild – safely. Conversations go from sanitation protocol to what do we want education or our island home to look like in 40 years.

We’ve re-opened up for small, free tours for kamaʻāina, are building virtual online educational resources, offering virtual lectures and workshops, and, in collaboration with Art Explorium, putting together kits to be sent to teachers for use in their classrooms. More and more, our conversations are about equity and how we, as a cultural heritage organization, can do more to amplify marginalized voices and address racial injustice.

None of this is possible without the support of key donors and foundations. You make it possible for us to keep bailing and paddling, paddling and bailing so that together the waʻa continues to glide from shore to shore.

Mahalo nui from the bottom of our hearts to the following supporters who have helped us reopen, develop new programs and continue to serve audiences:

Cooke Foundation

Atherton Family Foundation

ABC Stores

Hawaiʻi Council for the Humanities & National Endowment for the Humanities CARES Act Grant

G. N. Wilcox Trust

Island Insurance Foundation

EACH Foundation

Bank of Hawaii Foundation

Mālama Mānoa

And of course, we are so grateful to the individuals and foundations who support MHC programs all year long. We can’t do our work without you.
