This policy identifies the personal data we collect, how we use and secure that data, and your rights to remove your data from our systems. MHC does not collect personal information about individuals, such as names and mailing or e-mail addresses, unless the individual visiting MHC or its website (www.manoaheritagecenter.org) knowingly provides it.

Mānoa Heritage Center policy on collecting information

Online purchases When you order a product from MHC’s website, we need to know your name, billing and shipping addresses, telephone number, e-mail address, and credit card information to process your order. Your credit card information is stored on a dedicated server used for payment transactions and will be used only to complete your order.

Online memberships and donations When you purchase a MHC membership, make a donation and pay for a tour or event on the MHC website, information will be required to process these transactions and acknowledge your contribution. This information includes your name, billing and shipping addresses, telephone number, e-mail address, and credit card information. Your credit card information will be used only as needed to process your transaction. MHC will not trade, share or sell a donor’s personal information with anyone else, nor send solicitation mailings on behalf of another organization.

Online surveys From time to time, MHC may invite you to participate in surveys posted on our website or sent to you by e-mail. You may decide whether or not you wish to complete such surveys, which may ask about your background, occupation, or similar questions. We use this information to help us better understand our audience, which in turn allows us to better meet your needs and interests.

Children twelve and under MHC does not solicit personal information from children. Visitors twelve years of age and under should remember that they are required to obtain an adult’s permission before submitting any personal information to this or any other website.

MHCʻs e-newsletter As a service, MHC visitors are offered the option to subscribe to our online newsletter, a service hosted by a third party vendor that will use the e-mail address you provide only to send MHC e-newsletters to you. By providing your email address, a MHC e-newsletter will be sent to you as scheduled. You may subscribe or unsubscribe at any time by following the e-newsletter instructions on MHC’s website.

Cookies Cookies are small files of information that are stored on your computer’s hard drive by your web browser. The cookies we use do not contain any personal information. Most web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can change the preferences of your browser so that it does not accept them.

MHC policy on the use and disclosure of the information it collects

MHC uses the personal information you provide to us for internal purposes, such as filling and tracking your order, analyzing trends and generating comparative statistics. MHC may also compile and provide aggregate statistics about our visitors, customers, sales, traffic patterns and related site information to third parties, but these statistics will not include any personally identifying information.

MHC may release account information when such release is reasonably necessary to comply with the law; enforce the terms of any of our user agreements; or protect the rights, property, and safety of MHC, the users of its site, or others.

If you have provided us with your e-mail address, we may send you e-mails to inform you of events or activities at or related to MHC that we believe may be of interest to you. You will have the option to unsubscribe from these e-mail notices.

Use of outside vendors MHC may retain qualified third-party vendors to help manage our website and allow us to better serve our audience. These may include third-party vendors we engage to analyze the information we collect on our website for marketing or similar purposes. MHC requires its vendors to maintain the security of the information to which they are provided access and restricts the vendors from using the information in any way not expressly authorized by MHC.

We may contract with third parties who use cookies to collect information on our behalf. These parties are required to maintain the confidentiality of this information. If you would like to opt out of this use of your information, you can change the preferences of your browser so that it does not accept cookies. We may contract with companies or others to provide certain services, including credit card processing, data management, promotional services, etc. We provide these service providers with the information they need to perform these services, but we restrict the vendors from using the information in any way not expressly authorized by MHC.

Linking MHC’s website may include links to websites operated by third parties over which we have no control. Once you leave MHC’s website, our Privacy Policy will not apply, and access to such sites are at your own risk.

General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

GDPR took effect on May 25, 2018. MHC complies with GDPR to the extent applicable.

Utilization of data

MHC will utilize personal data including the information provided by you during usage of our website and submission of forms. This data may be used, for example, to send information electronically or physically that you request.

Basis for processing data

MHC may seek your consent to send messages (marketing communications). MHC will seek a separate consent to send these communications in certain cases which may be revoked by you at any time via email to contact@manoaheritagecenter.org or by clicking unsubscribe on the pertinent email footer.

Recipients of personal data

Recipients of personal data may include fulfillment providers for physical mailing, email deployers, technical providers of data storage, and back end service providers. All employees of MHC who receive or review personal data have received training concerning maintaining the confidentiality of such data and committed themselves to confidentiality. Where appropriate, MHC will enter into written agreements governing the processing and confidentiality of personal data by third parties.

Your rights under GDPR

If the GDPR applies to retention of your personal data, you have several rights including (i) the right to request access, rectification or erasure of your data, (ii) the right to lodge a complaint with the appropriate European Union supervisory authority, and (iii) to the extent processing of data is based on consent, you have the right to withdraw your consent at any time. Please note that in order to maintain a record of philanthropic giving, MHC is required to keep your basic record (name, date of gift, gift amount) if youʻve supported MHC financially.
